Just like Leo DiCaprio! Restaurant serving raw bison liver for 'Revenant'

Craving. Bloody. Bison. Liver.

Leonardo DiCaprio helped his screen immortality during a scene in The Revenant where his starving frontiersman Hugh Glass chows down on raw, bloody bison liver straight from the beast.

DiCaprio helped the cause by admitting that he actually ate real bloody raw bison liver during the shoot, telling USA TODAY: “My reaction to eating that piece of meat is right up on screen. It doesn’t taste great."

'The Revenant' captures Leonardo DiCaprio's true grit

But great drama.

Even Steve Carell told USA TODAY that he and DiCaprio "have a place we go in Hollywood where we eat bloody bison liver."

Hey DiCaprio, Steve Carell ate bloody bison liver too

That sounded like a lie.

But now word come down from the historic The Fort restaurant in Morrison, Colorado — the gastronomic frontiersland is paying a raw tribute to DiCaprio and The Revenant.  Diners can enjoy raw buffalo bison liver by request through the month.

Proprietress of The Fort, Holly Arnold Kinney says:

"Eating buffalo liver has saved many lives in the 19th century and earlier, and The Fort is proud to bring this prairie-to-table delicacy to our guests as a chef’s special...I  have personally eaten raw buffalo liver, as did my late father and food historian, Sam Arnold, founder of The Fort. It is chewy raw, but still has a sweet, fresh taste, full of minerals and iron.”

The liver comes with the Historian Platter appetizer, and it can be served cooked medium rare, with caramelized onions on a crostini, or raw. It's  $30 for a full order (serves four, or one really starving frontiersman).  And, as you might expect, it includes bison sausage, bison Rocky Mountain Oysters, bison tongue on a crostini, and guacamole. Leo would have killed for a little guac in that scene.

The presentation is a little different than The Revenant and includes things like forks. Sadly the Fort is a BYOBB establishment. Bring Your Own Bison Blood.
