Ariel Winter opens up about her life-changing breast reduction surgery

One awesome young lady.

Modern Family actress and body-confidence inspiration, Ariel Winter, penned an essay for Motto about her recent surgery that has caught some attention. In the piece titled Breast Reduction Surgery Changed My Life, Winter talks about returning to the set of her hit TV show for season 3 after her body changed dramatically over one summer, and she was suddenly supporting F-cups on her five-foot frame.

"I was 13, 14 years old, and I looked 19. Suddenly, people didn’t want to talk about my job—they just wanted to talk about my cleavage...  The conversation became about my looks instead of my talent and work—everything that I didn’t want."

She couldn't enjoy shopping, she continues, because everything she tried on made it look like she was "trying to be “sexy.'” Eventually Winter decided to have surgery not for the haters, or even because of how she looked, but because of the way her large chest made her feel.

"Having so much weight on my frame was affecting me psychologically. I was uncomfortable and unhappy. I chose surgery because of how I felt, not because of what anyone else thought."

After surgery, the 18-year-old is confident that she made the right decision.

"My surgery got a lot of criticism from some people, but I’m happier for it. In the end, I think it’s all about how you feel—not what other people think."

You said it, sister!
