How Olivia Munn mastered swordplay for 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Do not mess with her if there is a sword around. Seriously.

Olivia Munn is joining the X-Men universe as a sword-wielding, martial arts mastering, telepathic mutant, Psylocke, in X-Men: Apocalypse. It involves doing things like, say, slicing through a car.

So how does one get that good with a sword? It turns out, the hard way.

We caught up with Munn at the Vanity Fair-Fiat Young Hollywood Party Tuesday night in Los Angeles and she explained that good, old fashioned hard work is the way to become a superhero.

"I started training, doing 6/7 hours a day of sword and tae kwon do, never picked up a sword before. But it’s really important to me that Psylocke was as believable as possible and that meant to me that I had to really know what I was doing and be strong. And since this is the introduction to the character in the X-Men world, the fight scene, for me, was the monologue. It meant everything to me to be able to do it."

And do it she can.

Her beau, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, was on board for the transformation.

"He’s very proud of me, to see the dedication that I put into it. ... It’s everyday he does something that’s surprising and sweet and romantic."

Good work, Olivia. Maybe Ryan Reynolds should have trained with her?

Poor Deadpool.
