Voters pick the 'best' songs for the leading presidential campaigns

Usually, the presidential candidates pick their campaign songs; now the Hard Rock restaurant chain has surveyed voters to ask which songs they would assign to the candidates.

The results were.interesting, amusing, and sometimes...ouch.

The survey asked about the candidates who have won the handful of primary contests so far.

Republican frontrunner Donald Trump: More than half of those surveyed (54%) picked You’re So Vain by Carly Simon.

Bad Blood by Taylor Swift was picked by 14%.

Democrat Hillary Clinton: More than a third (37%) said her campaign song should be The Great Pretender by Freddie Mercury, originally by the Platters.

American Woman by Lenny Kravitz was second at 25%.

Democrat Bernie Sanders:  About one third (33%) One Love / People Get Ready by Bob Marley & The Wailers.

But 22% chose Because I Got High by Afroman.

Republican Ted Cruz: About 36% chose Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi.

And O Canada, our northern neighbor's national anthem, came in a close second at 27%. (Cruz was born in Canada.)

The Hard Rock Campaign Songs Survey was commissioned by the international restaurant chain and conducted by Wakefield Research among 1,001 nationally representative U.S. adults ages 18+ between January 29th and February 2nd, 2016, using an email invitation and an online survey.

Just for fun, the survey also asked about Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire and ex-New York mayor who may or may not jump into the race.

His campaign song, if he launches a campaign, should be New York State of Mind by Billy Joel, according to 40% of those surveyed.

Second place with 30%: Billionaire by Travie McCoy featuring Bruno Mars.

The survey also asked about past presidential campaign songs. Nearly three in ten (28%) of those surveyed chose Bill Clinton’s Don’t Stop by Fleetwood Mac as their favorite past campaign song.

George W. Bush’s I Won’t Back Down by Tom Petty (26%) and Barack Obama’s We Take Care of Our Own by Bruce Springsteen (21%) were also ranked as memorable songs.
