Singer Rihanna did not make her scheduled performance at the Grammys Monday after a doctor put her on vocal rest.

Rihanna cancelled her scheduled performance at the Grammy Awards Monday night after a doctor put her on two days of vocal rest to protect her voice.

The superstar singer tweeted her regrets later in the evening, thanking The Grammys organization and CBS for their support.

Earlier in the day, Rihanna gave it a try, rehearsing Kiss It Better. However, she did not go ahead with her performance, scheduled during the show's first hour, after a doctor's examination for an apparent upper-respiratory infection.

"Based on Rihanna's examination after Grammy rehearsal today, (her) doctor put her on vocal rest for 48 hours because she was at risk of hemorrhaging her vocal cords. The antibiotics she has been on for three days did not kill the infection adequately. Therefore she cannot perform safely," said the singer's spokeswoman, Amanda Silverman.

The Grammys organization sent the singer a digital version of a Get Well card.

Rihanna performed Saturday at a MusiCares Foundation event honoring Lionel Richie.
