Johnny Depp is taking the stage at the Grammy Awards Monday night with music legends Alice Cooper and Joe Perry in the supergroup The Hollywood Vampires.

And he's bringing a piece of his world to the stage. The song the band will be playing has lyrics written by Depp, called "As Bad As I Am."

Depp says the hard-rocking song is taken from his step-father Robert Palmer, who died in 2000, and who spent years in Statesville Prison.

Depp loved the man whom he has called "an inspiration" to him growing up. And when Palmer took a drink at the table, he would give the same toast. Depp has used these words in the song.

Johnny Depp vows to explode heads at Grammys with Hollywood Vampires

Depp tells USA TODAY:

"So the words of the song was this toast by my stepfather, who made his exit about 15 years ago. He was this really cool guy. He was a bit of a rounder. He spent about half his life in prison, in Statesville Ill. And he had this toast. 'Here’s to you, as good as you are. Here’s to me, as bad as I am. You're still as good as you are, as bad as I am.' "

At the Grammys, the song will then transition to Motorhead's Ace of Spades as a tribute to Motorhead lead singer Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister, who died in December.

Depp has vowed to make heads explode playing the song at the Grammys. And he is not nervous about taking the stage on Monday night. Rock music is his first love and the band rocks.

And, as he sees it, even if it goes very wrong, Depp's already played the fool on screen many, many times.

He's even filming the always-odd Captain Jack again in the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

"I’ve literally made an ass of myself for a living. I have done (stuff) on camera that no one has ever done. Shame doesn’t even exist for me. Sure there’s a nerves. But it’s more exciting.
