Some artists will suffer anything for their artistic heroes, including a permanent (painful) painting on their ribcage.

Lady Gaga acquired a new tattoo of the late David Bowie, whose image "changed my life" and the rock artist she is set to pay tribute to at the Grammys Awards Monday in Los Angeles.

On Sunday, she visited a tattoo artist in West Hollywood to pay personal tribute by getting Bowie's image as Ziggy Stardust from the cover of his Aladdin Sane album on her left ribcage, in between the many other tattoos in her collection.

She shared a video of the inking session at the Shamrock Social Club on her Snapchat channel, while a Gaga fan site on Instagram, gagadaily, posted pictures of the image and the finished product.

“This was the image that changed my life,” Gaga captioned one of her videos on Snapchat.

Gaga is promising an eight-minute, technologically ambitious, "multi-sensory" tribute befitting the famously experimental rock legend, who is due to receive a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award.

She had been booked to perform at the Grammys anyway, but after Bowie's shocking cancer death on Jan. 10 at age 69, the show's musical director, longtime Bowie collaborator Nile Rogers, immediately thought of Gaga to do the tribute performance.

Gaga has spoken before of her admiration for Bowie, whose music has influenced her sound and her look. She used to wear lightning bolt makeup similar to Bowie’s.
