BAFTA awards: 'The Revenant,' Leonardo DiCaprio dominate

American actor Leonardo DiCaprio and The Revenant were the big winners with five total trophies at London's 69th BAFTA Awards on Sunday.

DiCaprio took best actor at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards, while The Revenant beat out a highly-competitive field of Oscar contenders for best film.

Revenant director Alejandro G. Inarritu took best director, Emmanuel Lubezki won for best cinematography and the film won for best sound.

The BAFTA Awards air on Sunday night in the U.S. on BBC America, with Stephen Fry hosting.

Mad Max: Fury Road won four awards including best make-up, costume design, production design and editing.

Room's Brie Larson won for best lead actress, while the best supporting awards went to two Brits — Mark Rylance for Bridge of Spies and Kate Winslet for Steve Jobs.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was BAFTA-represented as John Boyega beat out a field which included Larson and Dakota Johnson for the "Rising Star in 2016" award. The Force Awakens also won best special visual effects.

Amy, the documentary focusing on the late British singer Amy Winehouse, took home the prize for best documentary.  Brooklyn, starring Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, won best British film.

Pixar's Inside Out took the trophy for best animated film.
