John Oliver was not a fan of Coldplay's 'excruciating' halftime performance

What John Oliver looked like after Coldplay played 'Viva La Vida.' Probably.

“Very much sex with the lights on.”

That's how John Oliver (whose Last Week Tonightis coming back Sunday THANK GOODNESS) described Coldplay's participation in this year's Super Bowl halftime show while stopping by Late Night with Seth Meyers. And while he had plenty of nice things to say about Beyonce and Bruno Mars' part in the show, he wasn't so kind to Coldplay:

“As a British person, I found the appearance of Coldplay slightly excruciating. ... These men like to smash into each other until they can remember nothing in their 60s. Your flowers and messages of love are not appropriate, Mr. Martin. I’ve never seen a Super Bowl halftime band leave the stage and just invite other bands to take over. It was spectacular.”

He also explained the difference between Americans and Brits when it comes to sports:

“In most other sports, the sport is the key appeal. And clearly that’s not the case for the Super Bowl. Americans just expect fighter jets and Lady Gaga now.”

He's not wrong. You can watch his full comments below, which is worth it if only for the way he says "Beyonce."
