George Clooney spills the deets of his 25-minute proposal on 'Ellen'

When you heard about George Clooney's engagement you were stunned. Apparently, so was Amal Clooney.

On Thursday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, George gave a pretty thorough account of his proposal that didn't necessarily go according to plan. It was certainly far from the flawless operations we've come to expect from Danny Ocean and his crew.

"It was one of those horrible moments," George said. "I plotted the whole thing out, had the ring hidden behind her. I had music playing, my Aunt Rosemary's gonna sing Why Shouldn't I. Everything was planned out, and I've cooked dinner... I've got it all setup, timed out, and the song is coming and she gets up to go wash the dishes, which she's never done."

George convinced Amal to drop the dishes, and eventually to pull out the lighter box where he had hidden the ring, but his bride-to-be was NOT catching on!

"She's like, 'It's a ring.' Like somebody had left it there some other time, I don't know."

So the Hail, Caesar! star dropped to one knee.

"I said, 'I couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life without you,' And she kept looking at the ring, and she was looking at me and she's like, 'Oh, my God.'"

25 minutes later... George said:

"'Look, you know I hope the answer is yes, but I need an answer 'cause I'm 52, and I could throw out my hip pretty soon if I don't get an answer.' And then she said, 'Oh, oh yes.'"
