USA TODAY Sports
Kyle Allen (10) will have two seasons of eligibility at Houston.

Former Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen is transferring to Houston, the Cougars announced Tuesday.

Allen, a former five-star prospect who appeared in 10 games for the Aggies in 2015 as a sophomore, led the team to a 5-0 start while averaging 254.8 yards passing with a completion percentage of 64%.

He later ceded the job to freshman Kyler Murray. Allen finished the season by completing 160 of 283 passes for 2,210 yards with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 10 games. Overall he was 9-5 as a starter for the Aggies.

Allen announced his intent to transfer from Texas A&M on Dec. 10. He will have to sit out the 2016 season per NCAA rules and would be eligible for the 2017 season. He would have two seasons to play with the Cougars.

Houston completed its first season under coach Tom Herman on New Year’s Eve, winning the Peach Bowl against Florida State after previously winning the American Athletic Conference championship. The Cougars finished 13-1 and expect to have starting quarterback Greg Ward Jr. back for his senior season in 2016.
