Mom gives voice to diabetic kids through unique photos

PHOENIX — Teri Lyne is a mom and an amazing professional photographer and one of her passions is educating the public about Type 1 diabetes.

She does this by photographing diabetic kids and teens, free of charge, and allowing them to say something about their picture.

One picture of a boy named Kenneth is captioned, "Having Type 1 diabetes doesn't stop you unless you let it" while another by Meghan says, "Type 1 doesn't stop me from doing anything I want to do."

It's empowering and it's validating to these young people to know that their life isn't over, it's just beginning.

The incredible thing about these kids is just how grown up they are. They know all about things like blood sugar, glucose meters and insulin and how much of it to take.

They're forced to grow up because their lives literally depend on it.

So why does Lyne do it?

Two of her kids are diabetic and she wanted to give them a voice. In fact, her youngest, Madi, spent some time at Phoenix Children's Hospital last week because her blood sugar was out of whack.

Two became four and now dozens and dozens of kids have had their pictures taken by Lyne.

She is an amazing woman who invites any parent with a diabetic child to contact her for a free sitting.

So as we head into the holidays, maybe it isn't the latest or greatest video game or that brand new iPhone that will light up your child. Maybe it's something as simple as a picture and giving them a voice.
