167,427 pounds of beef recalled for possible E. coli

A Nebraska meat supplier is recalling 167,427 pounds of beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli, the United States Department of Agriculture announced Sunday.

The ground beef was produced by All American Meats, Inc., in Omaha, Nebraska, and shipped to retailers across the country, according to the USDA.

A portion of meat tested positive for E. coli on Oct. 30. The recall affects products bearing the number EST 20420 inside the USDA mark of inspection. The ground beef was produced on Oct. 16 and sold to retailers in 60 and 80-pound boxes with a Nov. 3 sell-by date.

E. coli can cause dehydration and bloody diarrhea. While most people recover within a week, children under five and older adults are more susceptible to developing kidney failure from the bacteria, according to the USDA.

The USDA noted that the company is concerned some consumers may have frozen the products in their freezers.

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” USDA said in a statement. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

The USDA will post information on the states involved in the recall within the next week, according to USDA spokeswoman Kristen Felicione.
