Police say they have retrieved all seven pills in three bags of bipolar medication that had accidentally been doled out Friday to trick-or-treaters after a mix up at a grocery store.

After a female customer dropped medicine from her purse by mistake that was intended for her 17-year-old in a store called Metro, another customer took it to the service center counter next to a candy basket, said Nancy Roussel, a spokeswoman for Quebec Police Department.

Then, an employee mistakenly mixed the plastic bags of bipolar medication with plastic bags of candy, Roussel said.

"So – unfortunately – we don't know how – an employee just mixed it with the candy by accident and distributed it to the kids," Melissa Cliche, a spokeswoman for Quebec Police Department, told the Daily Star.

Police stressed to parents that the pills aren't dangerous, although the side effects include suicidal thoughts, nausea and tremors, according to the Daily Star.

"Needless to say that it is important to verify all the candies and treats kids received during Halloween, no matter where they come from," Roussel said. She confirmed that no one had swallowed the divalproex and quetiapine pills.

One report said a girl "chewed and spat out the drugs distributed by mistake," according to LeSoleil, a newspaper in Quebec.
